Q:
My skin is breaking out. However it is not only oily, but
dry! What can I do to keep the oil under control?
A:
The first thing I always ask my clients is if they drink
enough water, and unfortunately most of us don't. When your body
does not get enough water it becomes dehydrated. When your skin
becomes dehydrated it over compensates for the lack of water by
producing excess oil. When this happens, you breakout. And
when living in dry climates, that can be disastrous.
So in a nut shell, you could be using the most effective product made,
but if you don't use that h2o, which I might add is free, your results
will be minimal at best.
Q:
My pores seem so big. How can I make them smaller?
A:
Unfortunately there is no way to permanently make your pores
smaller. But you can help stop them from producing so much oil,
which in effect will keep them from expanding. A helpful way to
do
this is by using an alpha or beta hydroxy acids on your face at least
4x a week. How AHA's and BHA's help is by breaking up the bond that holds
the skin together and exfoliating it away. This contributes to
cell regeneration, which helps control oil production. It also
is very beneficial to drink plenty of water.
Q:
I have acne and my dermatologist put me on Retin-A. Since I
started using it my skin has dried out severely, and is peeling.
What can I do to stop it?
A:
Just like using alpha and beta hydroxy acids it is a good
idea to ease your way into using Retin-A so you can build up a
tolerance to it. The best way to apply Retin-A is
gradually. Start by using a pin head size of an amount. Dot
it around your face and neck then spread it around as best
as you can. Do that every other night for a week. In the
second week increase the amount a tiny bit, still applying every other
night. Repeat the same steps for the third week. On your
fourth week increase the amount and apply every night. By
following these steps there should be minimal peeling and
dryness. Always consult with your dermatologist if problems
persist.
